STEP RIGHT IN,

THE warp engine of our festival are the homemade shows, workshops, music-creations, film programs, speaker-sessions and slams. Knowledge and creativity can be shared in a load of incarnations so we develope fusions of art and science in extreme formats.

SCIENCE FICTION SLAM

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Science vs. Fiction - The Original - only here!

The unique feature of the festival is its inventive character in creating state of the art shows and exhibitions. Within the Science-Fiction Slam, scientists (real and interdisciplinary) versus fictional characters (ok-they are performers, actors or artists). A format that postulates the inventive mind of scientists and the improvisation skills of fiction and storytelling.

So you see a duel of e.g. cyborgs vs. quantum physicists, Mechatronic engineers vs. time traveller or a gender researcher from a foreign planet with multiple genera talks about sexual perspectives. We had Lt.Uhura explaining the universal-translator of Starfleet; Biohacker saving the world with an old phages-therapy, as well as a future food slam about food in space. It‘s all about changing the own lil‘ earth perspective to find oneself again in the wider spiral-arm of our galaxy…

HEBOCON

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Unser Schrott-Roboter Wettbewerb · Schrott is Hot! - Unser Family Event!

Hebocon is a crap- robot contest. Principally a kind of Sumo-Fight with little, self-made electro-garbage. During this fight, two suboptimal equipped robots are trying to demolish each other. (Well: Demolish? …they have to jostle each other from the table.) It’s originally a creation of the Japanese Inventor Daijū Ishikawa, and we transferred it to Europe.

We created this event not only for families and kids but meanwhile, it mutated to one of our biggest events ever and it is certainly the biggest Hebocon in the world. Kids, Fablabs and Guests are creating Hebocon-Robots before the show and bring them to the battlefield. Children love to build stuff and therefore learning a friendly approach to tech and art via creating such semi-functional little robots – just for fun…!

THE STATE OF THE ART-FESTIVAL

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Technology & Aesthetics - it's a holistic ART - Festival!

EXHIBITIONS BETWEEN ART AND SCIENCE – Media & Hybrid Art- Futureproof! The festival is a mother-ship for international and local artists as well as scientists on the border of visual experiments. We create immersive Media Art experiences like projection mappings, virtual and augmented reality shows and huge, contemporary art halls.

We love to entertain with art, not only in a visual but also in a physical approach via all senses. That means we do art shows via taste, smell and sound to give a wholly immersive experience. Therefore we are fusing art and tech in a holistic experience. And as a contrast, also use contemporary urban artists to contradict and scrutinize modern development… (the last part was for the art critics, I don‘T care..)

MUSIC

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Since the beginning, the festival has been a field of experimentation for young musicians, who found a platform with their symphonies, opera productions and avant-garde bands, robotic instruments, replica huge drum machines, body and vocal work.

Munich newcomers are our speciality!

We put e.g. with ‘History of BOOM’ from the first Big Bang Symphony – to the gigantic ensemble of a live space opera sets new standards in the direction of E meets U.

Where the music is going to etherate in the future – and that there’s no need to stop at ‘somehow electro’ – that’s what we’re convinced! Interdisciplinary rules, dude!

FAULTIVERSER

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Engl. Nothing is all about success; because success is not that deep than a real, good jump into the deep and dirty mud of reality. What is better than a fault to learn about reality?

We show the world as hard as it can be – concerning Murphy‘s Law: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong! Faultiverse shows live experiments and personel, scientific, historic and professional abysses of science and fiction. We still hope for good learning through catharsis…whatever that is…!

TASTE THE FUTURE

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Food is culture, science and science fiction for those who continue to think about nutrition.
Since we have to survive as a species with an increasing population, the topic remains current as never before.

How will you eat in the future? What? And in which dimension? How will we deal with resources?
What will change in our diet? How can we continue to farm our planet in the future?
Is our wastefulness still viable?

A second planet Earth has unfortunately not yet been discovered. We just work on alternatives! And this in the form of our always curious questioning festival formats!

SCI-FI LITERATURE STAGE

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Early on, anyone who wants to become a sci-fi author reads …! Even if this saying makes no sense, we bring up young scribblers who can try out our favourite genre. In doing so, our audience is introduced to the worlds of sci-fi -the actual origin of the so-called “Literature of Ideas”.

So you save a lot of reading and thus lifetime when you jump to interesting books … 😉 Let’s now deal with the ‘fiction’.
The fictional, all conceivable, the possibility principle of storytelling. Everything that shaped the progressive, avant-garde character of the original SF literature.

The insane, offside – the storm and urge of warp drive. New stars blink at the event horizon of the young authors.

SPEAKINGS

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

It is important in our lectures, that they bring off-topic topics on the stage. The content of our lectures ranges from astrophysics to quantum physics, robotics or future eating habits, speculative fantastic to steep theses; e.g. In the end, we are not all a simulation, and even this text here is already programming in the generic circuitry of a super existence.

A format that questions personal perspectives, causes bias to crumble, and dismisses our guests with a smile, or at least thoughtfully, into the supposed reality.

THE HIT PARADE

FROM THE 24TH CENTURY

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

We dedicated this part of music to all german ‚Schlager‘-lovers and haters. The ‘U.F.O. To nowhere’ is the first Schlager from the 24.Century., a highly sophisticated form of the assistant programme Alexa is getting alive as ‘Alexa Berg’. As we discovered that HEIMAT music can‘t die in the future…even if we are moving to other Exoplanets.

There will always be room for love, yearning and sense of home…actually also if the songs are coming from an intelligent cloud-based singing robot.

WORKSHOPS

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

_ are an exciting mix of lecture and active program, in which our guests are allowed to join spontaneously. Everything was there: No matter if you describe a science fiction story from a dystopia to a utopia, or build robotic instruments out of furniture, live coding or hackathons. Everyone can get started quickly, no previous knowledge is needed. And everyone is guaranteed to leave our festival with at least one great, new talent! The inclusive offer makes u.a. also strongly on the format of the Gamification; so our smallest guests can benefit quickly!

SMELLING THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

– An interactive Smell-Show

That it smells different on exoplanets is a clear thing; but how – logistically so far was not feasible …. Driven by the curiosity of how it could smell on other planets, or what aliens sweat under their armpits – wherever these may be – found our new fragrance show – Smelling the Extraterrestrial great fun with the audience. The audience itself became ‘perfumers’ and created live scents. There was mixed, tested and composed together what did not smell of this world … together with the scent artist Klara Ravat.

MOVIE PROGRAMM

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Film is not only a means to talk about the future, but also to show it. With our partners, TimeWarner, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, our Nerdy hearts beat fast in terms of animation. We bring the latest series from this franchise cadre.

Indepentent filmmakers and Munich junior directors also find their home here. Trends and interactions of art and technology address our film series. We usually reach our audience through the smart set-up of Entertainment and Education. By definition, science fiction is a possibility principle and ideas generator, thermometer and warning system for those who listen carefully – and see!

VR-AR–MIXED-REALITY ZONES

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Since our reality was seldom enough, we were quick to be enchanted by new realities! Since the beginning, the festival has had a virtual reality platform that takes our visitors into new technical gadgets. Here, artists show their individual projects, but also student projects of the University in Linz are of great interest. How new technologies affect people and how they affect our lives are central themes of a sci-fi festival.

SCI-FI IMPRO THEATER

solar system by Juan Pablo Bravo from the Noun Project

Again and again, our festival created hybrid formats that show the avant-garde of science fiction and its versatility in form and content. At the sci-fi improvisation theater, the audience determines the theme and the progression of the stories by calling them. There is no script and the performers perform freely and without preparation directed by the audience to science fiction topics from literature, pop culture and film. With Impro 9 from outer space we had a wonderfully improvised premiere!
